Find Your Favorite Noise Color! (Violet is crazy)

You've probably wondered why there are so many different white noises... It is not necessarily because YouTubers like us run out of ideas (lol), different white noises actually serve different purposes. Today you can learn about all the different noise colors!

White Noise

White noise contains equal intensity across all frequencies, creating a consistent "shh" sound. Think of TV static or a hair dryer. It's great for masking other sounds and is often used in offices and nurseries.

Pink Noise

Pink noise has more power in lower frequencies, making it sound deeper and more balanced than white noise. Examples include steady rainfall or rustling leaves. Research suggests pink noise might improve sleep quality and memory.

Brown Noise (Red Noise)

Brown noise emphasizes even lower frequencies, creating a deeper, rumbling sound like a strong waterfall or heavy rain. Many people find it more soothing than white noise because it feels more natural.

Blue Noise

Blue noise emphasizes higher frequencies, creating a brighter, more energetic sound. It's often used in audio dithering but can be too harsh for relaxation purposes.

Violet Noise (And yes, it's crazy!)

Violet noise increases by 6 dB per octave, making it very bright and intense. It sounds like a high-pitched hiss and can actually be quite jarring. We definitely don't recommend this one for relaxation! It's mainly used in technical audio applications.

Green Noise

Green noise is designed to be most comfortable to human ears, with emphasis on the frequencies we're most sensitive to (around 500 Hz). It's like nature's own frequency signature.

Finding Your Color

Everyone responds differently to different noise colors. Some people find white noise too harsh and prefer the warmth of brown noise. Others need the consistent masking of white noise to sleep well. We encourage you to experiment with different colors to find what works best for your unique needs.

In our Sound2Soothe collection, we focus primarily on pink and brown noise variations because they tend to be the most universally soothing. But understanding the full spectrum helps us create better content and helps you understand why certain sounds resonate with you more than others.
